You need to change the directory PERMISSIONS in your FTP client. Here’s how:

> Right click on the MEDIA directory and look for an option that says “PROPERTIES” or “DIRECTORY PERMISSIONS”.
> “Check” all of the boxes (I know this is not very “accurate”, but I do not know what you are using); but, there will most likely be 9 boxes that read READ, WRITE, etc. etc.
>> Or if you have a field that currently either reads: 666 or with three numbers erase the three numbers and type in 777.
> Hit okay/apply. This should now work and make the directory writable.
> Refresh the page.
> The directory is now writable by Joomla.

I believe not only is /media needing 777 permissions, but also more directories. Follow the same pattern as above in your favorite FTP client to fix the folder permissions on the other folders.

Check out Joomla’s manual/README for further information on which directories need to be readable/writable (and chmoded by you).

Sincerely,

xq
